Introduction

The global warming controversy primarily concerns what percentage the 20th century increase in surface temperature is attributable to greenhouse gases and what steps, if any, society should take in response, and whether it is in a country's economic interest to take action to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. There is a strong consensus among scientists that most recent warming is caused by anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases and that warming will continue with serious consequences if emissions continue. A few scientists disagree, most commonly asserting that, although warming is occurring, its cause is either natural or human.

The Task

You will have to adopt a role and investigate which causes (either human or natural) are the main consequences of global warming. Besides, you have to discover how humankind can reduce its effects on sea-life and on earth. Take into account how far  governements are concerned with this problem and if they carry out some kind of policy to deal with it.

Each member of the group must share the information related to their own search. The required task consist of designing some leaflets to promote a general selfawareness among the population and find out some possible solutions.

The Process

ROLES

1.- A marine biologist. This student has to do research about the changes that are taking place in the sea and affects sea life.

2.- A geologist. This student has to focus on the effects over the earth surface.

3.- A Greenpeace representative. This student will concentrate on human behaviours that provoke global warming and how we can avoid them.

Learners are supposed to browse different internet web sites and

answer the questions they will be provided with.

Search in the following ones:

1.       Build background knowledge about global warming and current policies by using the sites listed previously.

2.       After looking at the general issues of global warming, discuss with your group what you have found.

3.       Be sure to read information from other partners so you can get to a general consensus to perform the final task.

4.       After determining what key points you would like to make your team will design a leaflet.  This pamphlet will contain any facts, ideas, or views you think are important to the global warming prevention.

Score

Internet research related to the topic

-Searching of information taking only one idea.

-Not having contrasted different approaches

-Having found and contrasted several approaches

-Founding and research at personal level of some approaches as well as giving the student’s own opinion.

Individual work content

-Not clear understanding of the topic

-Vague ideas without going deeply into analysis

-Clear understanding of topics according to the individual work taken to class

-Clear understanding

-Deeper analysis

-Clear organisation of ideas

 -Giving personal opinions

Group work

Poor selection and organization. The quantity and quality of the content are not enough to convey the subject matter.

Good selection and organization. The students selected good content, but some of them are not so crucial for the audience and context. Overall elements are relevant, but some of them are not connected coherently and cohesively.

Outstanding content selection and organization. The students showed excellent selection of relevant content to their context and audience from provided resources. The elements of content are coherent and cohesive and logically draw final statements.

Final project

Mostly incorrect grammar and spelling. The tone and style are inappropriate for the audience and context. The writing includes much incorrect information, and makes the audience confused and distracted. Key points are obscure.

Mostly good grammar and spelling. However, the tone and style do not match with the audience and context. The overall writing is accurate but, redundant and lengthy. Some key points are clear.

Extraordinary grammar with accurate spelling. The tone and style are most appropriate for the audience and context. The writing is not only accurate but concise, comprehensive, and clear. Key points are obvious and clear. Key qualities: conciseness, clarity, logicalness and appropriateness.

Conclusion

In the end, thanks to your research, you have contributed to an increase on people’s concerns about the problems of global warming.

How is it possible to face and act against this general trouble?
